About Abby Rebello
Abby Rebello is a Gourmand Award-winning cookbook author, food and faith blogger based in Mumbai, India. She documents the culinary traditions of the East Indians – an indigenous community from Mumbai whose cuisine is a centuries-old blend of Maharashtrian and Portuguese influences, and one of India’s least recorded food heritages.
In November 2025, her cookbook Jevayla Ye: Everyday East Indian Recipes from Abby’s Hearth was named Best Indigenous People Cookbook in the World at the 31st Gourmand World Cookbook Awards in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – widely regarded as the Oscars of gastronomy. Her companion volume, Essentially East Indian Seafood: Recipes from Abby’s Hearth, placed second in the Seafood category at the same ceremony, earning the title of Best Fish & Seafood Cookbook in the World.
Gourmand Awards President Edouard Cointreau described Jevayla Ye as a beautiful homage to the everyday foodways of Mumbai’s East Indian community, noting that it opens the door for cooks everywhere to experience this extraordinary culinary legacy.
Abby runs Abby’s Hearth (abbyshearth.com), a blog covering East Indian recipes, faith, and everyday home life, and Hearth and Plate Media (hearthandplate.media), her publishing imprint. Her five cookbooks are available across India, the USA, UK, Australia, Canada, and Europe – in stores and online.

A Note on East Indians
East Indians are not people from the Eastern part of India. They are an indigenous community from Mumbai city in Maharashtra. Their cuisine is a spiced blend of Portuguese food mixed with their deeply rooted coastal flavors. Abby’s cookbooks are among the very few records of this culinary heritage in print.
