Similar to the Onion Tomato Cucumber Salad and the Green Tomato and Cucumber Salad, this Diced Green Tomato And Red Onion Salad is ready in just a few minutes. It’s not a whole course like in Western culture, but a simple side salad for Mumbai’s hot weather.
Every East Indian from Mumbai eats the simple onion, tomato and cucumber salad along with their meal on hot summer days. And this green tomato salad is not that different. It’s not a whole course like in Western culture, but a simple side salad for Mumbai’s hot weather that’s just served by the spoonfuls.
Simply replace the onions with red onions, the red tomatoes with green tomatoes, the cucumber is optional, and add a red tomato if you want to. That’s all there is to it. Dice into cubes and cover with salt, pepper and lemon juice.
It goes perfect with rice and dal with fried paneer, or jeera rice and lonvas mutton curry, or turmeric rice with surmai fry and masoor dal; or really any spicy Indian food.
How To Make the Diced Green Tomato Side Salad?
Dice the onions and green tomatoes. Cover with salt, pepper, and lemon juice and mix together. Serve with red tomato wedges if you like. Thankfully, there’s no particular requirement about how to serve it as there is for the East Indian green salad.
