For our beach vacation in Mauritius, we made Westin Turtle Bay our base. And it turned out to be a good choice. What is a beach vacation without a resort with its private strip of beach, access to the ocean and water activities, restaurant options, a great spot for a sundowner, pool area to relax in, and a few other amenities like a spa, gym. Westin Turtle bay delivered on all this and more. It is definitely one of the best resorts in Mauritius for families.

Rocky is the beach!

The Westin Turtle Bay is located in Balaclava on the sheltered north-west coast. The resort is around an hour’s drive northwest of Mauritius’s International Airport. The beachfront here is on Turtle Bay Marine Park, with calm waters perfect for swimming and snorkelling or just relaxing after a day visiting the island.

Pool and sea, perfect!

The property is spacious and spread out. The public areas at Westin Turtle Bay are partially open to the elements, allowing breeze to come through its hallways and natural light to stream in. Service is friendly and efficient as expected from a Westin property.

Room and Food

Some suites are garden facing while others are facing the beachfront. There are rooms available on first floor as well. In all, the 190 rooms and suites give your plenty of choice. Our garden facing suite was massive with a spacious bathroom and a little patio to sit out and enjoy the gardens / sunset over the horizon. The king-sized signature Westin Heavenly bed promised a restful stay.

There are 5 restaurants at the resort, so plenty of choice available. The Beach Grill is lovely, with fresh catch available every day. There are restaurants with modern Indian, Mauritian, and pan Asian cuisines. Great options for food both vegetarian and non-vegetarians. The breakfast spread is heavenly. I loved the Mystique lounge, it offers complimentary sundowners and canapés on comfortable loungers with live music.

What to do at the resort

The pool is right next to the beach!

The resort have several facilities, from tennis courts to a jogging track tto a 24 hour fitness centre. The best part about the pool is that one is adults-only and another one for families. The Heavenly Spa apart from a range of treatments offers sauna and steam room for the guests. Quite difficult to get out of the resort, but Mauritius has so many natural spots like Black River Gorges national park and cultural activities on offer.

Westin Turtle Bay also has a dive centre at the beach area. I made use of this and did a amazing wreck site at Turtle Bay itself. Water sports such as kayaking, sailing, windsurfing, snorkelling and glass-bottom boat trips are complimentary for guests.

Amenities for families

The staff went all out to celebrate my daughter’s birthday while we visited the property. Room decorations and a cake of her choice, she was delighted. For young kids, there is a Westin Family Club at the property, this has several educational activities such as learning Creole, cooking lessons, a nature walk and a kayak trip for the kids. My daughter has a choice of kids menu at all restaurants.
