A Tasty Food Guide from Sticks & Spoons

On our Travels to Bangkok we have eaten a lot of great food; from street food to Fine Dining. It’s a vibrant, progressive and interesting restaurant scene with so much to explore if you love to Travel for Food like we do! Here is our top picks to the Fine Dining Food Discoveries we have made in the city of Bangkok.

1. Gaggan – Progressive Indian Cuisine

A well-praised and rewarded restaurant with a progressive approach to the Indian Cuisine, reflecting Chef Gaggan Anand’s journey from being a poor man back in India and ending up as one of the most celebrated Chefs in Asia. His story is beautiful and impressive just like his dishes.

Eating the Tasting Menu at Gaggan was a roller coaster through 25 servings; thrilling, mind boggling, wonderful, flavourful and fun! Gaggan have announced that he will close the Bangkok restaurant in 2020 to open up a new 10-seat establishment in Fukuoka, Japan open only on weekends, so you better hurry if you want to get the Progressive Indian Cuisine Experience!

2. Bo.Lan – Responsible Thai Cuisine

The name is obviously a play with this chef couple names; Duangporn Songvisava’s nickname Bo and the second part of Dylan Jones name – Bo.Lan – but also a play on the Thai word for ”vintage” or ”ancient” which sounds the same but is spelt slightly different. Their engagement in environmental challenges and keeping a true approach to traditional Thai Cuisine and respect for Thai Produce, working closely to local farmers, is admirable.

With so many familiar tastes and hot dishes in their Tasting Menu this was without a doubt a tasty treat! Eating Bo.Lan’s family style food but yet with a modern twist was a relaxing and warm experience we’ll carry with us for a long, long time.

And while you’re in Bangkok, and have time for visits in between dining, why not visit the Wat Arun, Khaosan Road, and the Grand Palace. By the way, my friend Soumya wrote a great guide to Wat Arun that you should read.

We really wanted to eat everything on the menu but managed to restrain ourselves to five (or six?) dishes. Each and every one of them was beautifully executed and impeccable in taste! A fantastic food and drink experience from the Michelin Starred and rewarded Restaurant.
