If you love offal or have an inclination towards other variety meats; you’re in for a treat. Chicken heart stir fry is a quick easy stir fry made of chicken hearts or the hearts of any other animal. We love it as much as the chicken heart masala dry.
Cooked simply with onions, tomatoes, and spices, it’s supposedly the perfect source of B-complex vitamins and protein that keep your heart in good condition.

What Ingredients Do You Need To Make This Heart Stir Fry?
You don’t need much to make an offal heart stir fry. Well, obviously you need chicken hearts, or any other animal offal – goat hearts or cow hearts will also do.
But you also need a few other ingredients – onions, tomatoes, chilies, turmeric powder, salt, water, and oil.
How To Make The Heart Stir Fry
One question people always ask is how to cook chicken hearts? Is there a secret method to cooking with chicken offal so that it tastes normal? What does chicken heart taste like?
Well, chicken hearts taste like any other part of the chicken, but more chewy and gamey, sort of like when you’re eating some tougher dark meat. And there’s no real secret to cooking poultry offal. Just cook it like any other dish.
And this chicken heart recipe is really so easy! Simply start by pressure cooking the offal hearts in a pressure cooker for ten minutes after reaching full pressure. Then set them aside.
Slice onions and tomatoes and slit the green chilies in three of four pieces.
Fry the onions in oil till somewhat caramelized. Add tomato wedges and chilies and fry more.
Then add turmeric powder and salt and cook some more. Finally, add the hearts and water and cook on a low flame for ten minutes till quite dry.
Once the heart masala stir fry is quite dry, serve with ladi pav, or apas, or bread, or just plain ‘ol rice. Yummy as yummy goes!

Ingredients
For Boiling in Pressure Cooker
- 100 grams Chicken Hearts
- 1 Litres Water
- 0.5 teaspoon Salt
For Pan Frying
- 2 Tablespoons Oil Or Ghee
- 2 Onion
- 2 Tomato
- 3 Green Chilies
- .5 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
- .25 teaspoon Salt
Instructions
- Boil the hearts in water with salt in a pressure cooker for about 10 minutes after the first whistle. (That's 10 minutes after full pressure.)
- Slice onions and tomatoes fine. Slit chilies diagonally.
- In a frying pan, add oil or ghee and heat it.
- Add the onions to the frying pan and fry till glassy for a few minutes.
- Add the chopped tomatoes and green chilies and fry for another minute.
- Add the turmeric and salt and mix well.
- Add the cooked heart and allow to cook on a high flame for 5 minutes followed by a low flame for 10 minutes.

Notes
- Cook the chicken or bovine hearts in a pressure cooker to get them tender before stir frying.
- Green chillies add a lovely spiciness to the dish.
