Matthew is the longest of the four Gospels, and it reads like a story from start to finish — a genealogy, a birth, a baptism, three years of teaching and miracles, and a command that still sends people out today. These wholesome Christian humour jokes cover a career change, a sermon on a mountainside, a fisherman who tried walking on water (and succeeded and failed at the same time), and parables about everything from mustard seeds to wedding banquets. As always, nothing here makes light of the harder moments, just the parts that were always meant to bring a smile. For more, visit our Faith hub.
🌳 Matthew 1–2
Why does Matthew’s Gospel open with a genealogy?
Because even the King of Kings needed to show His credentials.
Why did Joseph listen so closely to his dreams?
An angel kept showing up with the memos.
Why did Joseph pack up the family overnight for Egypt?
An angel doesn’t ask twice.
What did the Magi bring that no baby registry has ever included?
Gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
The Wise Men never asked for directions. They already had stellar navigation.
The star of Bethlehem definitely deserved a five-star review.
King Herod really hated surprise visitors.
Fun fact 👀: If you pictured an innkeeper and shepherds in this scene, that’s actually Luke’s version of the Christmas story — Matthew’s account is all about the Magi, the star, and Herod instead.
🏜️ Matthew 3
John the Baptist never worried about fashion trends.
Locusts weren’t exactly everyone’s dream lunch, but John loved them for lunch.
📋 Matthew 9–10
Jesus called Matthew. He finally got an offer he couldn’t refuse.
Why was Matthew so good at keeping records?
He started as a tax collector.
⛰️ Matthew 5–7
Treasure in heaven never needs a security system.
The Sermon on the Mount definitely had standing room only.
Jesus gave the greatest sermon ever without a microphone.
The Beatitudes are blessings that never go out of style.
Salt has never had better publicity than in Matthew 5.
The light of the world doesn’t need new batteries.
Building on rock has always been the better investment.
The foolish builder clearly skipped construction class.
🌊 Matthew 8–9, 14
The disciples discovered that miracle catering beats fast food.
Walking on water is one skill that’s difficult to add to your résumé, but Peter did it.
Peter discovered that faith floats longer than doubt.
🌱 Matthew 13, 18–25
Even mustard seeds get famous in Matthew.
Camels still struggle with tiny needles.
⚖️ Matthew 15–23
Jesus never lost an argument with the Pharisees.
The Pharisees asked a lot of questions and got even better answers.
Fun fact 👀: Zacchaeus and his tree are famous — but that story is actually in Luke 19, not Matthew.
Matthew begins with a family tree and ends with a mission for the world. Following Jesus, this Gospel reminds us, is the greatest life upgrade there is — and nearly two thousand years later, it’s still changing lives and still not finished. It’s important to remember that Matthew’s Gospel ends with a promise, not a period. He is with us always! (Matthew 28:20)
