My Favorite Christian Books

Note: This is a work-in-progress list, being made while I reorganize my bookshelves. So there might be many Christian good books missing! If you think a book should be added, just comment and let me know!

I’ve been a Christian for over 25 years. Well, I used to talk to Jesus when I was a child but back then I didn’t really know what it meant to be a Christian. It took some time for me to change from talking to Jesus to talking with Jesus and actually waiting for him to reply. And even then, I took different roads than the ones he wanted me to take. It’s funny sometimes, but Abba always brings you back full circle.

Sometimes my friends ask me for recommendations on the best Christian books to read, or which Christian books will actually allow them to read to the end.

It really depends, you know. Like one of my favorite pastors said, some books can do a lot for you, and you’ll devour the entire book. And some books will have just that specific verse or paragraph that was meant for you, and changes your perspective completely.

Anyways, if you want to know which books I like too, here are my favorite Christian books in random order!

PS. Before you go further, these are just personal recommendations from an everyday Christian. What they do for you is between you and Abba. If you need more specific recommendations, just ask your pastor or core group leader 😉

Best Christian Book Ever – The Bible!

I mean seriously! If there was only one Jewish or Christian book that you could read, wouldn’t the Bible be at the top of your list?

I love all versions of the Bible. Abba really filled them up with everything – murder, suspense, intrigue, nature, wealth, poverty, war, peace, famine, love, hate, compassion – almost every emotion you can think of, you’ll find in the Bible. Here are my favorite versions of the Bible from the many that I have!

1. King James Version

Thee and thou lovers will love this version. I have this copy as well and love comparing it to the others. And if you’re going to say that the KJV Bible is wrong because it translates love to charity. Well, you’re right, but remember it was the KJV Bible that paved the way for so many latter translations, it’s worth having a copy.

2. The Passion Translation

Some may say the translations are not always right, but Brian Simmons unlocks God’s heart and his fiery message of love through this version of the Bible. He makes Abba’s powerful truths more accessible to his children while moving our hearts to encounter His heart. If you want to feel the Bible, rather than just read it, get this version!

3. The Message

Eugene H Peterson did a wonderful job of making the New Testament writings of Paul more understandable in contemporary English. Reading the Bible in modern English makes it so much easier to connect with its truth. . Grab a copy of The Message here!

4. The Complete Jewish Bible

Written by Messianic Jewish David H Stern, this translation of the Bible restores its Jewishness. Expressing the unity of the Tanakh or Old Testament and the B’rit Hadashah or New Testament, it’s a version you want to read if you want to delve more into questions and answers.

Best Books About Christianity

1. A Gentle Thunder

God does what it takes to get our attention. Read and you’ll find the message of this book evident in your life too. It’s simple – the relentless pursuit of God.

2. Epic: The Story God is Telling

The only story worth telling. How an unfathomable God stepped out of time and into our world through His son Jesus. It’s only through Jesus’ love for us and His sacrifice that we’ll ever come near to approaching the throne of grace. This story, our story, His story is Epic!

2. Grace

With the number of times we eff up; yes, I know good Christians don’t say that, I never said I was a good Christian. Anyways, even after the number of times we do things outside of Abba’s will, he still loves us and calls us back to him. His ways are not always normal, and Max Lucado brings us this message in this book. Grace, more than we deserve, greater than we imagine!

Best Books to Reach Deeper Dimensions with Abba

1. Angel Armies On Assignment

Did you know that there are armies of angels just waiting on you? They’re waiting for you to repeat those words that God speaks about you. Learn how to interact with them! This book Angels on Assignment by Tim Sheets will show open your eyes to more, so much more!

2. Prayers and Declarations That Open the Courts of Heaven

I’ve heard Robert Henderson preach on TV a lot of times. Years ago, I used to think that his prayers and declarations to access the courts of heaven were only for Christians who God loved more than us. You know, the ones that never did anything wrong, the ones that never made a mistake, the ones that never stepped out of the will of God.

It took time for me to understand that Abba loves us or me just as he loves the Christian in the next room or the next block or the next city. And if I wanted to have Abba’s will for my life fulfilled, I needed to learn how to access His courts as a true son or daughter. In this book, Robert Henderson helps to pave the way.

3. The Prophetic Voice of God

God is always speaking. We just have to train ourselves to hear. If you’ve struggled like me in figuring out if it’s Abba talking or if it’s another voice you’re hearing, thenLana’s book will help. Lana simply teaches you how to discern when God is speaking and the many beautiful ways he’s talking to you.

Best Books For Christians To Grow

1. Wild at Heart: Discovering the Secret of a Man’s Soul

A book that will inspire you to raise your sons as wild and free as Abba intended them to be. The book will also help wives to understand the sacred masculinity that God gave men when he created them. If you want men who are strong, courageous leaders and not wimps, and not wimps, get a hold of this book!

2. Captivating: Unveiling the Mystery of a Woman’s Soul

Women are more than just descendants of Eve. They are the expression of Abba’s feminine side, of his heart, of his love. In Captivating, John and Stasi Eldredge dive into how to love your daughters and raise them to be the strong beautiful women that Abba created them to be. And more than that, this beautiful book!addresses how to help heal the wounds of the women in your life – be it a sister, wife, mother, or friend.

A lot more to add here. Still reorganizing the library!

Best Christian Books About Health And Food

1. The Maker’s Diet

This one by Jordan Rubin is about getting healthy the biblical way. In his book, he details the food eaten in the Bible, the very same foods that helped him overcome Crohn’s disease over 25 years ago.

If you want to live a healthy lifestyle by eating real foods, this is the bookfor you! If you’re asking if we do this, we’re sort of on the edges of the camp, picking the book up every now and then. But it’s a good one to have in the Christian arsenal.

2. The Maker’s Diet

Want to find the fountain of youth and stay young forever? Or want to be as sprightly at eighty as you were at twenty? Maureen Kennedy Salaman’s book is still teaching alternative medicine long after she left this world. Known as the First Lady of Nutrition, she was a devout Christian who believed eating right was the secret to health. All ofher books teach you how to rekindle, replenish, and rejuvenate oneself. When I was a teenager, some of her exercises noted in the book, especially the ones for the arms were pretty fun too!

Best Christian Books That I Still Have To Read/Finish

I swear I’ll finish these books one of these days, but sometimes they become a bit too much to grasp. If you have read them, lemme know what you think of them!

1. Zola’s Introduction to Hebrew

Back when I was trying to learn Hebrew (maybe 20 years ago), I really loved watching a series called Zola Levitt Presents, which taught us about the Jewish roots of Christianity and why Christians should support Israel.

One of the books we bought at that time was Zola’s Introduction to Hebrew. It’s pretty good, although, not being surrounded by people to practice with, I kinda put it on the back burner years ago. I mean, we have Jewish friends, but with work and stuff, finishing became difficult. But if you’re really up for it, Zola’s book is awesome!

2. Mere Christianity

C S Lewis’ defense and explanation of the Christian beliefs. Really need to get back tothis book.

3. The Four Loves

C.S. Lewis’s famous workon the four natures of love and how they can get distorted by human beings: Affection, Friendship, Eros, and Charity.

Whether you’re looking for daily reading or for books to grow with while on the Daniel fast, there’s always something out there! I’ll try to add more here once I get back to cleaning out the library. But if you have some good Christian books to recommend, comment and let us know!

  1. One of the best christian books I’ve read so far is The Shift https://www.keionhenderson.com/books/, a truly inspirational read. This book gives you a look at the life of the author Keion Henderson and the ways we can survive the seasons in between with the courage that comes only when you’re sure of God’s purpose for your life.
